Instead of using a towel, check out my post on the 'hiney harness'. It has been a lifesaver for us. Our backs were in bad shape. You can find it on www.handicappedpets.com. The price is pretty reasonable. As for a used chair....hmm....I don't really know on that one. We checked out a few on ebay but they weren't Winston's size. We didn't want to get one and not have it fit properly. You might check out craigslist also.

Hang in there. I am hoping the hiney harness will help.

Dear Winston,

I too have a fabulous basset hound, female named Delilah.
Just 3 weeks ago she went through the same as you.
She is 9 years old and the love of my life.
I want to get her a wheelchair, but I too have had some serious surgery in the past 2 months and I dont have the money to buy her one.
Do you know of any organizations that might be able to help us?

I so want her to have her fredom again, as it so hard on both of us to towel walk.
Thanks and Blessings to you on your recovery.
Bassets ROCK!

I am so glad that Winston's blog helped you and your dog. I think that's awesome that he now has wheels of his own. Keep rollin' with it Stormy!

OH Winston! You are such a treasure. And I wanted to let you know that your blog helped save my best friend's life. After reading it, I decided to get a dog wheelchair for Stormy, who was hit by a car and couldn't walk. The vet suggested he be put to sleep but the light in Stormy's eyes said "NO!" He was happy, healthy, and full of love.
I got him the adjustable wheels (Called Walkin' Wheels) from HandicappedPets.com. This way, as Stormy got stronger, I was able to adjust the wheels. As he regained strength I made the wheels shorter so that he would put more weight on his back legs. Eventually I would fold up the wheelchair and carry it in case he got tired.

Now, STORMY IS WALKING AGAIN... because of your blog.

Love,
Elisa and Stormy.
