I hate to mention this because it is embarrassing but some strange guy scared me last year and I truly over reacted. I didn’t bite but I let him know what he did was wrong. You see, I was walking with Mom and Ben and a kid about 17 years old thought I was really handsome and came running up behind me and gave me a playful jiggle. WOAH! I went right out of my mind. I had no idea who he was or what he was doing or if I had to defend myself. My bark is worse than my bite because it so slow and has a lot of bass to it. That usually does the trick so that is what I did. I scared the kid and he walked away very quickly. Let me tell you, MOM WAS TICKED. What if I had bit someone? I would have been the one in trouble even though I did nothing wrong. If he came up to me slowly and put his hand out gently , then I bit him with no warning…well….I would get the punishment that I deserve. I bet that was a hard lesson for that boy. I hope he treats dogs with a little bit more respect than that. Please remember this when you approach a dog you don’t know. Just because a dog is cute, it does not give you the right to treat it like your own.
Take care of yourselves.

As we get older, there’s nothing that is more important than a comfortable place to sleep. I know some owners are very old-fashioned about where dogs should settle for the night. That place is usually the floor. For some people, an old blanket just has to suffice. My dog companions and I have had numerous conversations about this topic. We need comfort just like you do. As we age, it is just as difficult for us to get up from a night’s rest as it is for you. I think this is why we like to take our time out in the yard in the morning. Old bones need more time to get movin’.

Old beds need to be changed out from time to time and washed. The stuffing may need to be replaced or thrown out all together. Old blankets might have lost their ability to keep warm and snug too. A cold floor is no fun in winter. Please, put this on a ‘to-do’ list befor the real cold weather comes. We will be very grateful.
I think the sun is finally out today. It rained all morning. I just might be able to enjoy a nice walk outside after all. Arrrooooo!!!!!!
Take care of yourselves and your old pets.

Winston

Everywhere I go it seems like people are amazed by my fortitude. They just can’t seem to believe how well I soldier on with my wheelchair. I hear, “Look at him go!” all the time. Why shouldn’t I go? Why should I stop loving the things that I love to do. Going out and meeting people and living life is the best. So what if I have a chair? So what if I can’t walk on all four legs anymore? Big deal! Some dogs don’t live to be my age. Some dogs are perfectly healthy and aren’t allowed to do what I do. I am not going to stop. There are no excuses to let something as simple as not being able to walk keep me down. Remember that for yourself. It might be a bad relationship, a crummy job, being broke, unlucky in love, or not fitting into the right pants or dress size that you would like that hinders you. Stop making excuses! Live life! Don’t feel that the situation that you are in is permanent. Look at me. We thought that I would never be able to go for a walk again. My wheels have helped me tremendously. My wish for you is that you find something that will help you overcome your obstacle. The answer isn’t always obvious but it is always there.
Take care everyone,
Winston
